THE FIRMAN BRANCH

The connection to the Firmans begins, and for the moment ends, with Sarah Firman(134), one of my thrice great grandmothers, who married John Lacell(133) at Prittlewell, in Essex in 1787. Only the year of the marriage is indicated in the source used by the IGI. Other IGI entries indicate that Sarah was born in Southchurch, Essex, which is a parish adjacent to Prittlewell, in about 1763. The marriage entry also suggests that Sarah was from Southchurch. However, I have looked at the microfilm of the parish register for Southchurch and have not found any Sarah Firman, or indeed any Firman at all, in or around the 1760s. On the other hand, there are a number of other Firmin/Firman baptisms in Essex in the period 1751 to 1771, of which a Sarah Firmin, daughter of John Firmin and Mary, baptised at Bulmer, Essex, on 11 Jun 1766 is the most promising, although Bulmer, just to the west of Sudbury, must be a goo 60 km north of Southend of which both Prittlewell and Southchurch are nowadays part. At the moment there is nothing further to say.
