THE TOWNSEND BRANCH

The Townsend branch starts with Jane Townsend(18), who married John Holinger(17). This marriage took place at St. John's Church, Wakefield, in the West Riding of Yorkshire. Jane's father is given as a David Townsend, Salesman. Details of the children of Jane Townsend can be found in the entry for John Holinger.

Jane TOWNSEND

Aside from the entry in the marriage register which gives her father as David Townsend, I have not been able to trace other details of Jane's origins. I have not yet found an appropriate record of her birth or baptism. There is an IGI entry for a Jane Townend born on 23 Aug 1823 and baptised at Ossett Green Independent Congregational Chapel on 30 Nov 1823 [IGI based on church records, 1741-1837, FHL film 828149, items 5-6, batch C087201]. This Jane was the second of four children (of a David Townend and Sarah) who were baptised at Ossett Green between 1821 and 1826, but this date of birth is some months too late if our Jane was really 34 when she died. John Holinger and Jane had four children, for which see the entry for John Holinger.

David TOWNSEND

There is a marriage between a David TOWNSEND and Sarah HEALD, which took place at Dewsbury, Yorkshire, on 20 May 1821. This would fit with daughter Jane being born between May 1822 and May 1823. However, the four children mentioned above were spelt Townend, not Townsend. They were:
